Welcome from UMUC President Javier Miyares

Honoring our history, our mission, and our vision

Dear Friends,

It is my privilege to welcome you to our year-long celebration of the 70th anniversary of University of Maryland University College.

UMUC was founded in 1947 in response to the unique needs of adult students—women and men, many of them veterans returning from the Second World War, who turned to higher education in search of brighter futures, better jobs, and more fulfilling lives.

Today, UMUC remains committed to the same unifying mission, offering a high quality education that is affordable and accessible, while meeting critical workforce needs and accommodating the busy lifestyles of adults in the 21st-century and the modern U.S. armed forces.

It is my honor to serve as president of this remarkable institution as we commemorate this milestone year. As we look to a future that is bright with opportunity, I look forward to events and initiatives throughout the year that celebrate this anniversary and embrace fully the vision and mission of a university dedicated to improving lives around the world.

Sincerely,

Javier Miyares
President
University of Maryland University College
